Sally and Alice Travel Co. was born in 2010 on a dusty motorbike safari on Alice’s family sheep farm in Australia. PLEASE MEET OUR team of honest and approachable travel experts united by an unwavering wanderlust.
Alice’s love of big skies, wide open spaces and roads less-travelled has a lot to do with her slightly wild upbringing in rural Australia. In 2004 Alice swapped country life for the bright lights of London, where she first worked at Morgan Stanley. After several years of slogging away in the City, travelling at every opportunity, Alice packed her bags and headed out on a solo trip from Kampala to Cape Town. It was on this trip that she realised she could make a career from her true passion — notably while working as a safari hostess for Norman Carr Safaris in Zambia. Back in London, four years at luxury travel company Black Tomato allowed Alice to further expand her knowledge, falling in love with new destinations throughout Africa, the Middle East, and North America. Seven years of heading up Sally and Alice Travel Co. and she still loves the thrill of planning trips for her clients, as well as discovering new destinations on her own travels, more recently with her husband and two young boys in tow.
Born in Dorset and a real country girl at heart, Katie has always had an affinity with the great outdoors. After finishing her studies, Katie combined her love for travel with a career at Black Tomato, where she quickly became Head of Leisure, specialising in India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Middle East. After six years, it was Katie’s friend and mentor Alice who encouraged her to head ‘out into the bush’ for some fresh on-the-ground perspective. After six months of volunteering at Ants Nest in South Africa, Katie reluctantly turned down a job as Relief Manager to head overland into Botswana where she worked as Reservations and Assistant Manager at Okavango Horse Safaris. Living under canvas for a year consolidated Katie’s love of adventure, and on returning to London, Katie joined Sally and Alice Travel Co. bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and some pretty serious adventure credentials; when not planning trips for clients Katie can be found kite-surfing in Kenya or skiing in Switzerland.
From the tender age of ten Holly planned holidays for her family — persuading her parents that going to Sri Lanka and Africa was more important than school. After studying at Oxford University, Holly interspersed research work in London with some epic adventures — inter-railing Europe, travelling overland around South America and circumnavigating the world without flying. The latter was ‘by far the best thing she’s ever done’ (apologies to her two kids), because she loves nothing more than the rawness of a true adventure, whether that’s sailing across the Atlantic or cycling up the Rockies. Holly’s online account of her travels became one of the earliest eco-travel blogs and since then she’s focused her energy on promoting and discussing sustainable travel; working and writing for Green Hotelier, Responsible Travel, The Long Run, Beyond Media, The Guardian, Tatler, Suitcase Magazine and Bouteco, to name a few.
